Polysilicon2026-08-06 23:30:08Trump Orders Minimum Import Prices, 15% Tariffs on PolysiliconU.S. President Donald Trump on Aug. 7 signed an executive order invoking Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 to impose minimum import prices and extra tariffs on imported polysilicon and its derivative products, a move aimed at supporting America's domestic polysilicon, semiconductor and solar supply chains. Under the announcement, the minimum import price is $21 per kilogram for polysilicon, $100 per kilogram for polysilicon ingots and wafers, $0.22 per watt for solar cells and $0.38 per watt for solar modules. The order also applies a 15% ad valorem tariff on polysilicon ingots and related derivative products listed in the annex. The measures take effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on Dec. 4, 2026. In addition, the Commerce Department is authorized to create a "Re-shore America" incentive program. Businesses that commit to building, renovating or expanding U.S. facilities that produce polysilicon, ingots, wafers or solar cells, and start construction before Jan. 20, 2029, may apply for exemption from Section 232 tariffs on certain imported equipment and related products.
